A CO. Meath nursing home owner died after being hit by a truck while crossing a California highway in Burlingame on Saturday, July 12.Brigid Seepersad, 54, was, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) crossing the busy 101-highway near the Broadway exit when a she was struck by an 18-wheeler semi-truck, instantly killing her.The crash was reported to CHP at 12:50 a.m. on the morning of the accident.The CHP are still investigating why Seepersad, who runs Hillview Nursing Residence in Rathfeigh, Tara, Co. Meath with John Cahill, was crossing the highway in the first place. Seepersad did not have a car in the area.According to a police statement, Seepersad was crossing the southbound lanes on foot toward the west shoulder near the Broadway Avenue overpass when she stopped in the number three lane and was hit by the truck. A 1994 Lincoln was also involved in the accident. Both drivers were uninjured. According to CHP officer, Peter Van Eckhardt, the truck was traveling a minimum of 55 miles per hour."Unfortunately, there was very little chance of survival," Eckhardt said. "We're just trying to find out what she was doing on the freeway. This is pretty unusual."A call from the Irish Voice to the Hillview nursing home was answered by a staff member who said that although she was aware of the accident, she could not comment further.
