The funeral for Kevin Flatley, the Dublin garda who was on duty when he was fatally struck by a motorcycle on Sunday, May 11, will be held on Friday, May 16.
The funeral Mass for Garda Kevin Flatley will take place at 1:30 pm local time on Friday at St. Peter and Paul’s Church in Balbriggan, Co Dublin.
The Mass will be followed by a private family burial in Newcastle, Co Dublin.
The funeral Mass will be live-streamed on An Garda Síochána's Facebook page and YouTube page from approximately 1:15 pm, and it will also be streamed online here via ChurchMedia.
An Garda Síochána cautioned on Thursday that parking in the vicinity of the church will be "very limited," adding that the carpark beside the church will not be available. Road clsoures and diversions will be in place on Friday, with mourners encouraged to use public transport.
Garda Kevin Flatley, killed while on duty
On Sunday, May 11, An Garda Síochána confirmed that a motorcycle had struck Garda Kevin Flatley, an on-duty member of An Garda Síochána’s Roads Policing Unit based at Dublin Castle.
49-year-old Flatley was pronounced deceased at the scene on the R132 at Lissenhall near Swords in North Dublin.
The motorcyclist, a male and aged in 30s, was transported by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries.
In a statement on Sunday, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said he was "deeply saddened" by the death of his colleague, who he said had "over 26 years of dedicated service to An Garda Síochána and the people of Ireland."
Harris said: "Garda Kevin Flatley is the 90th member of An Garda Síochána killed in the performance of duty.
"Kevin was on duty this afternoon, serving the public by endeavouring in keeping them safe on our roads.
"His death is a terrible reminder of the dangers faced by Gardaí.
"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.”

Ireland's leading politicians also paid tribute on Sunday.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin extended his sympathies to Flatley's family, friends, and colleagues.
“Our Gardaí serve with courage and dedication each and every day to keep the public safe and to prevent crime," the Taoiseach said in a statement on Sunday.
“The loss of a garda while on duty will be keenly felt by those who knew him, in communities across Ireland and by all members of An Garda Síochána.
“Our thoughts and prayers go to all those in mourning following this terrible tragedy.”
Tanaiste Simon Harris said he learned of Garda Flatley's death "with profound shock and sadness."
The Tanaiste said: "Garda Flatley was a long-serving and much-respected member of An Garda Síochána, devoted to his job and to keeping his community safe. There is no greater example of that than today when he was working to keep the public safe on our roads.
"The untimely loss of Garda Flatley reminds us of the frailty of life and how suddenly loss and grief can be thrust upon us. It is also a tragic reminder of the risks that Gardaí take everyday in the service of our country and its people.
"I extend my heartfelt sympathies to his family, his friends, his colleagues in the Roads Policing Unit and all those who loved him.

"An absolute gentleman"
A notice on RIP.ie said Garda Flatley leaves behind a wife, Úna, two daughters, Erin and Aoife, as well as his parents, brother, in-laws, extended family, friends, and neighbors. He was predeceased by his sister.
In the notice, Flatley is described as a "dedicated member of An Garda Síochána" and an "avid member and coach of O'Dwyer's GAA local club."
The GAA club said on Sunday: "Kevin was an absolute gentleman who had a huge part to play in our club, always lending a hand when he could.
"He was always a pleasure to chat to, and his grá for GAA and helping others shone through in every conversation.
"He was a dedicated coach with our u10 girls team, encouraging the players at all times and bringing great energy."
On Monday, the club's junior teams observed a moment of silence before their matches.
The GAA Club has invited its members and friends to line the streets from McNally's Funeral Home to St. Peter and Paul’s Church from 1 pm on Friday ahead of the funeral Mass.
"Wear club colours & bring hurls to show mark of respect & recognise Kevin's love of hurling & camogie," the club said on social media, adding that the u10 boys, u10 girls, and u15 girls teams will do a guard of honor at the church.
