UFC’s Irish mega-star Conor McGregor would certainly agree that behind every successful man is a strong woman, and in his instance that lady is Dee Devlin, his girlfriend of more than eight years who never leaves his side.
Not only is Dubliner Devlin the love of McGregor’s life, she’s also a key part of his team who works for him full time. And he loves to look after her, he says.
"My girlfriend has been there since the start. She has helped me throughout this career. If It wasn't for her, I probably wouldn't be where I am today,” McGregor told the Irish Mirror in May.
"So definitely, I love to spoil her. She does not work anymore, I hired her to the business. She works for me now and collects the checks."
There’ll be plenty to collect after McGregor’s beat down of his opponent in Las Vegas on Saturday – Mac earned $500,000 for his troubles – and some of the money will unlikely indulge his habit of collecting shoes that actually need passports.
As Dee explained ESPN, “He's kind of gotten into animal skins recently. He already had one pair of shoes that have a traveling passport, because they are made of python skin. So, if you fly to, say, California, it's illegal to buy them there so if you don't have a passport with them they’ll be seized.

“So the other day, we went to the shops on the Las Vegas Strip and he bought a pair of caimans, which I think is crocodile or something, and we brought them home and I said, 'Conor! These shoes have a passport, too!' So, him asking me, 'Make sure you pack my passport and my shoes' passport' when we travel I guess is pretty strange.”
Dee was in the ring with her man after the match to celebrate, with thousands of traveling Irish supporters looking on.
“I am so grateful right now it's overwhelming. We did it babe!! I love you more than anything,” she tweeted after the fight, adding for good measure, “The Irish are truly the best supporters in the world!!!”
Conor, Dee and their crew partied into the night at a few Vegas clubs after the win; Conor also turned up on Sunday afternoon for a bikini pool party where he was swarmed by fans, according to TMZ.
Congrats poured in from the Twitterverse, including a note from Arnold Schwarzenegger – “Congrats to the #McGregornator. You did it again” – and Justin Bieber’s father Jeremy, of all people, imparting some words of wisdom that perhaps his son could use: “Legends: one who makes their life, their time! Make this life your time! Be better than all you can be! Congrats @TheNotoriousMMA.”
