The body of an English teacher from Ireland was found at the side of a road in Gunma, Japan in the early hours of Sunday morning, August 22.

The teacher, Alan Buckley, was found lying on National Road 254 a close to 3.30 a.m. and police believe that he was the victim of a hit and run accident.

Police report that Buckely, 32, was not wearing any clothes when his body was discovered and they believe he had been drinking.

The Irishman has been living in Japan since July 2009.

Buckley, from Cork City, was teaching English at three primary schools and one middle school in the city.

He was working under the Japan Exchange and Teaching program which is organized by local and central governments.

On Sunday evening a 63-year-old truck driver was arrested Sunday on suspicion of driving away from the accident.

The suspect, Masami Wakabayashi admitted to the allegation, saying he fled because he was scared, the police said.
