Tanya Mulryan of Foynes Court, Longford originally pleaded guilty to child porngrahpy charges   but is now seeking to change her plea to not guilty.  The 30-year-old pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after having the illegal images printed on an A4 page at her home on February 7, 2006.  The case was to be settled last December but a psychological report was requested followed by Mulryan beginning to look for a new attorney.

The Irish Independent reports that Mulryan’s new and current lawyer, Mary Rose Gearty, told Judge Mary Ellen Ring there is, “serious danger of a miscarriage of justice occurring if her client's earlier guilty plea was accepted by the court.”

The defense suggests the criminal here is really Mulryan’s father, and the original guilty plea to gardai was forced.

The court has the ability in certain cases to allow an accused person to switch pleas but prosecutor Tara Burns told the court the state does not accept that “she was acting under the coercion of her father when she made admissions to gardai.”

Judge Mary Ellen Ring has pushed the case’s start date a week to review the ruling.
