Tomasina McArdle, aged 51, is understood to be from the Drumhowan area of Co. Monaghan, while her husband, Patrick Tobin, was a 48-year-old New Zealander. The tragic incident occurred in the town of Cullera, about 40 kilometers south of Valencia.
Police are working under the impression that the couple died accidentally rather than being the victims of a crime.
The prevailing theory, according to local media, is that one of the two deceased fell or slipped, and the other suffered the same fate while attempting to rescue them. This would explain the bloodstains and injuries found on the bodies.
Postmortems were carried out on Wednesday, with one possibility being that the hot tub itself may have malfunctioned in some way.

Relatives of Ms McArdle arrived in Spain late on Wednesday to comfort the couple’s two teenage boys who are believed to be traumatized after discovering the bodies.
It was initially reported that the couple were both Irish and were aged 50 and 45. This has since been clarified by the Valencia Civil Guard.
The New Zealand Department of Foreign Affairs says they are aware of Mr Tobin’s death.
The family had been in the area of Cap Blanc in Cullera, a town with a population of around 25,000.
A statement from the Department of Foreign Affairs to Extra.ie read: "The Department is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance in the case of the Irish citizen concerned.
"As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
