Sharon Commins, a 32-year-old Irish aid worker, was abducted in Kutur in northern Darfur on Friday.  The Irish woman, who works for charity organization Goal, was taken at gunpoint with a Ugandan colleague.

“Unidentified armed men came to the quarters of the (Irish) NGO Goal at Kutum in Northern Darfur," said a source."They took a Sudanese watchman, an Irishwoman and a Ugandan woman. The watchman was later freed."

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the woman was forcibly taken and are working with the embassy in Cairo to find out the latest developments.

Commins has been working in the area for a year.  The other woman abducted has  been identififed as Hilda Kawuki, who is in her 40s.
