Miss Ireland, Diana Donnelly, has been tipped to win Miss Universe by an Irish bookmaker after a mystery punter gambled a five-figure sum on her.

Boylesports said they put Donnelly as joint favorite with Miss Honduras at 12/1 after they received the massive sum.

“The competition in the Bahamas is going to be extremely tough, but someone out there is very confident that Diana Donnelly has what it takes,” said Nicola McGeady of Boylesports.

Miss U.S.A. ranked third with the bookmakes at 16/1, while odds for fourth place Miss Mexico are at 18/1.

Other popular Irish bookmaker Paddy Power does not have as much faith in Miss Ireland, installing the Irish beauty queen as the joint second favorite at 14/1 alongside Miss U.S.A., Miss Costa Rica and Miss Dominican Republic.

The 58th annual Miss Universe pageant will be held in Nassau, Bahamas on August 23.

The winner of Miss Universe 2009 will be crowned by the 2008 winner, Miss Venezuela.
