Much to the delight of many Irish women in America, budget retailer Primark, known as Penneys in Ireland, will now cater to online shoppers.

Primark had previously avoided investing in any online ventures, focusing instead on expanding its presence on the high street but now a limited number of items will be available during a trial period through the ASOS website.

“As an online fashion destination, ASOS delivers an edit of the brands and product that are relevant to its 20-something target market. Primark is part of that mix,” a statement from Asos says.

Primark may well be testing the water for its own online shopping venture. Perhaps they are also hoping to follow in the steps of ASOS, who have grown since the year 2000 selling own-brand clothing “inspired” by items seen on film and TV actors and finally growing to encompass high street brands and designers and catering to a more international audience, speculates the Independent.ie.

However, it remains to be seen if the recent factory collapse in Bangladesh, where some Primark clothing was made, will impact the sales of their new venture.
