The famous Irish sports star, who recently lost the appeal in his civil rape case from 2018, has said for the past two years that he will be running for President of Ireland, a mainly ceremonial role, ahead of the election expected to take place this October.

Despite needing support from 20 members of the Oireachtas or four local councils, numerous TDs, Senators, and Councillors have said that they wouldn’t nominate McGregor, but the disgraced UFC fighter has claimed that he has support from "TDs, Senators, and Councillors" - including "the most prestigious party of all" on Twitter (X).

"I have [the nomination] secured," McGregor wrote. "I have councils on board. TD’s. Senators. I even have the most prestigious party of them all. It is now about choosing my affiliation. Ireland’s Call will be answered. I am here for the will of the people. Only. Who aligns in support of the policies I have presented, will be the saviors of our great nation. They will walk the streets of Ireland to applause! Éire go deo!"

It should be worth noting that McGregor has not named any of the supposed TDs, Councils, Senators, or political parties who he claimed are set to nominate him.

I have it secured.

I have councils on board. TD’s. Senators.

I even have the most prestigious party of them all.

It is now about choosing my affiliation.

Ireland’s Call will be answered.

I am here for the will of the people. Only.

As for the real Presidential candidates, Catherine Connolly has been confirmed as being on the ballot, while Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys is set to seek the nomination from her party after favorite Mairead McGuinness pulled out of the race.

Pharmaceutical boss Gareth Sheridan is also seeking to become the youngest President of Ireland ever.

Fianna Fáil have yet to field a candidate but could nominate former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, while Sinn Féin are also unsure if they will be putting a candidate forward — with Mary Lou McDonald potentially making a bid for the Áras.
