Janette Kilmacrenan, Michelle Falcarragh and Michelle Doherty are from Donegal and joined Team Aisling a few months ago to raise money for Aisling Irish Community Center.
They are the not the only ones running for the Aisling Irish Community Center. Team Aisling now has over 160 runners competing in the 5K, the Half Marathon and the Marathon. The team is a charity based team with a common goal, to take part in the Yonkers marathon, create awareness and raise funds for its vital programs and services.
Janette, who has been living in New York for over eleven years, says she’s is “delighted to run the Half Marathon for the Aisling Irish Center as she has seen throughout the years the wonderful work the center has done for the community and fellow Irish emigrants”. Janette started running six months ago they have been dedicated members right from the start.
Michelle Ferry, stated that “the Aisling Irish Center provide a great service to the Irish community here in New York. It is our home away from home”. She also added that this “is a great way to give back to the community and raise some vital funds for the center”.
The team spirit in Team Aisling kept them motivated along the way and was a fun way to get moving and train together at weekends.
The Aisling Irish Community Center in Yonkers, is one of the largest Irish immigrant resource centers in the tri-state area. The Center provides resources and a community respite to the Bronx, Yonkers, Queens and the entire tristate area. Over the years, the role of the Center has evolved into a fully-fledged social services organization catering not only to the Irish and Irish-American population, but also to the community at large. Aisling Center is one of the largest Irish immigrant resource centers in the tristate area and the main provider of services for communities of Yonkers and Woodlawn.
