Benefits for Irish student, Natasha McShane, and Stacy Jurich are being organized around Chicago.

Natasha McShane remains in a critical condition in hospital while Stacy Jurich has since been discharged. The two young women were savagely attacked with a baseball bat two weeks ago.

Heriberto Viramontes, 30, and Marcy Cruz have been charged with battery and armed robbery. They remain in custody.

Following the violent attack on the young women two weeks ago the outcry of support and empathy from the Irish American community in Chicago and those with no affiliation to Ireland has been tremendous.

A benefit to raise money for McShane will take place on June 4 at Local 399 Union Hall.

This week a fundraising event will be held at Cans Bar where Jurich used to work. Jurich’s father, Pete, helped the bar staff spread the world about the fundraiser by handing out papers in the street.

"I don't know what else to do. There's a lot of love pouring out. We appreciate the feelings and prayers from people in the neighborhood . . . and I guess I want to say hello,” he said.

The two girls will need ongoing and in intensive rehab to overcome this terrible attack. To donate to the funds visit mcshanefund.com and stacyjurichbenefit.com.
