The father of Celtic star Anthony Stokes is in trouble again – John Stokes has been arrested by police in Dublin and charged with making a demand with menaces. He is also under surveillance for the Queen’s visit because of his extreme republican views.

Stokes Senior was arrested on Saturday after presenting himself at a police station on his arrival back from a trip to a Celtic match in Scotland.

The noted Republican made the headlines worldwide earlier this year when he was ordered to remove a giant anti-Royal poster from outside his Players Lounge pub in the Fairview area of the city.

Stokes was then questioned as part of a police investigation into dissident Republican activity in the Irish capital.

Now he has followed three fellow suspects into court as part of an investigation into claims that the owners of another Fairview pub were ordered to close down within 24 hours.

The investigation centers on the Castle public house in north Dublin and the four men, including Stokes, have been charged with making a demand with menaces that the pub close within 24 hours.

The 54-year-old Stokes was brought before a special sitting of the Dublin District Court and charged with making the demand on March 13th to Shane Simpson, the former lease holder of the Castle.

All four accused were remanded on bail to appear before the court again on June 24th.
