The County Cork hotel, where Kim Kardashian and Kanye West stayed on their honeymoon, is expected to fetch between $17 and $22.5 million (€15m and €20m) at auction.

The five-star Castlemartyr Hotel and Resort, one of the icons of the Celtic Tiger, was developed at an estimated cost of $78.9 million (€70m). It went into receivership two years after it opened.

Recent guests, aside for Kim and Kanye’s honeymoon visit in May 2014, include Bruce Springsteen, when he played in Cork and the former US president Bill Clinton.

This sale is expected to attract a large amount of interest from international buyers.

Castlemartyr consists of a 17th century country manor house adjacent to the ruins of an 800-year-old castle. The sale also includes 19 golf lodges and one mews house. Dining establishments at Castlemartyr include The Bell Tower Restaurant, Franchini's Italian Restaurant, Knights Bar and the Garden Room.

The resort is being sold as a going concern and there will be no interruption to business or events booked. It opened in 2007 but shut its doors in 2008. It reopened once more in 2009 and has been operated by the same management firm that runs Dromoland Castle, in Limerick.

The property is being put up for sale on the instructions of Nama. Its sale is being managed by Savills Ireland head of hotels Tom Barrett.

Barrett said “Castlemartyr Resort is one of the finest hotels to ever come to the market in Ireland and provides a buyer with the opportunity to acquire an exceptional hotel in a superb condition.

"The significant increase in domestic and overseas trips taken in Ireland has boosted Ireland's hotel trade and Castlemartyr has huge potential. We expect strong demand from both local and international buyers."
