Kalie Gill, a sophomore at St Barnabas High, passed away from her injuries last weekend when she was struck by a car driven by Roseanne Piccirilli (55), a sixth-grade teacher. No charges have been filed and her car is being inspected.

Lindsey, Kalie’s 12-year-old sister, was also badly injured and remains in the hospital. Her family, including her parents Karen and Damian, maintain constant vigil at their daughter’s bedside.

Although she is expected to make a full recovery, Lindsey suffered head wounds, internal bleeding and multiple broken bones to her lower body. She has regained consciousness a number of times and she has no brain damage.

On Tuesday, speaking to the Irish Voice, Karen said “She’s a tough one. She’s a fighter.”

“She has a lot of broken bones. She has been under sedation and has been in pain.”

The Gills are surrounded by friends and family members from Ireland at the hospital. Meanwhile the Irish community in Woodlawn and Yonkers is supporting the family in every way possible.
