Irish-American superstar George Clooney is alive and well, despite false reports that the actor died on June 29.

Clooney is just the latest celebrity to be declared dead in an internet hoax, which forced his representatives to release a statement confirming that the actor lives on.

Clooney’s agent Stan Rosenfeld revealed that his client’s office has been flooded with phone calls from the actor’s family and friends who are worried sick that the rumors are true.

In the past days, we have sadly said goodbye to icons Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson.

Due to this unusually high number of celebrity deaths in such a short period of time, death hoaxes are running rampant on the Web.

With the help of the social networking sites like Twitter, the list of deceased stars has greatly expanded with vicious rumors spreading like wildfire that falsely claim various other celebrities have died.

Last week, “reports” surfaced that actors Jeff Goldblum and Natalie Portman passed away. Goldblum was inaccurately said to have been killed in an accident on the set of a film in New Zealand.

This week, Clooney was rumored to have died, along with “Never Gonna Give You Up” 80s pop singer Rick Astley.

Other stars that were falsely rumored to have died recently are Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and Harrison Ford.
