“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” managed to top of the box office charts over the four day, Fourth of July weekend.

The hit movie’s figures grew by $82.5 million over the weekend bring the total so far to $175.3 million according to its studio, Summit Entertainment. This is the second biggest opening on record.

It seems that Summit Entertainment had thought that the movie would continue to grow in popularity after the massive opening day but Summit lowered its projections for the movie over the holiday weekend.

The studio had overestimated the amount of people who would go to the movies on the Fourth of July instead of heading to the beach or having a barbecue.

Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com said “Movies that pop this big on opening day, it's virtually impossible to keep up that breakneck pace…We've seen this with a lot of movies where the first day is their biggest day, then it kind of settles into a more normal pattern."

Second on the box office charts for this weekend was “The Last Airbender” with $53.2 million. Despite awful reviews this movie seems to be fighting back.
