The first official trailer for "The Paper," the new US series starring Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson, has landed ahead of the show's debut next month.

Gleeson, son of veteran Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, stars in "The Paper" as Ned Samson, the new editor-in-chief of a struggling newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.

While it's not exactly a reboot, "The Paper" exists in the same universe as the nine-season US version of "The Office," as the series follows the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch.

'Not a remake'

Back in May, Gleeson told Collider: "People are going to have to take the show on its own merits, because it's become something different. It's a whole new city.

"It's not like a remake - it's like a documentary crew went to a different city and they're following different people. It's not a paper company; it's a newspaper. It's a very, very different set-up."

Gleeson went on to heap praise on Jon Krasinski and Steve Carell, who famously starred in the US version of "The Office."

While there may be plenty of "different people" in "The Paper," there is one familiar face from "The Office."

"Not again," says Oscar Martinez, the accountant played by Óscar Núñez in the US versoin of "The Office," in the first trailer.

"I'm not agreeing to any of this."

He adds: "I will make this unusable. F--k. Use that."

Also starring algonside Gleeson and Núñez in "The Paper" are Sabrina Impacciatore ("The White Lotus"), Chelsea Frei ("The Moodys"), Melvin Gregg ("Nine Perfect Strangers"), Gbemisola Ikumelo ("Brain In Gear"), Alex Edelman ("Teenage Bounty Hunters"), Ramona Young ("Man Seeking Woman"), and Tim Key ("The Ballad of Wallis Island").

Guest stars on "The Paper" include Eric Rahill, Tracy Letts, Molly Ephraim, Mo Welch, Allan Havey, Duane Shepard Sr., Nate Jackson, and Nancy Lenehan.

"The Paper" is created, written, and executive produced by Greg Daniels, under his banner Deedle-Dee Productions, and Michael Koman ("Nathan for You.")

Executive producers of "The Paper" are Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille).

"The Paper" will premiere in the US exclusively on Peacock on Thursday, September 4, followed by two new episodes every Thursday through September 25. The series will debut in Ireland and the UK on Sky and streaming service NOW exclusively on September 5.
