The latest eye-popping trailer for 'The Avengers' hit the web this week and already interest is off the charts.

'War has started and we’re hopelessly outgunned,' says Samuel Jackson’s setting the stakes for the desperate last stand flick.

Trouble starts when the Norse God Loki (Tom Hiddleston) pulls together an army that threatens the entire planet. That leaves a disparate bunch of solo operators like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and archer Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) to do something they have never done - form a working team together to defeat the bad guys.

But our heroes would rather fight each other than unite against Loki. That's the challenge that Downey Jr. alluded to this week when approaching the role: 'I'm still trying to remember the character we created in Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and be true to that,' he told the press, and the challenge is figuring out how he can work with an oddball team.

Other team members have issues of their own too. Says Chris Evans of his Captain America character: 'He's lonely. I don't want to ruin anything but the few people he knew who are still alive are probably in their 80's. Anyone he could possibly consider close has gone by the wayside.'

'We’re not a team, we’re a time-bomb,' agrees Ruffalo Bruce Banner, who's character represents the biggest time bomb of them all.
