Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin has revealed he is fed up of his birth-given middle name.

The New York native told The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon that the moniker is getting old.

"I was staring at my passport recently and I was looking over my middle name. My current middle name is Carson," the 38-year-old actor said.

"It's very Irish. And I thought I should probably spruce up my name a little bit. You can vote on my new middle name; we've narrowed it down to five options."

Culkin called on fans to log on to his website BunnyEars.com and choose their favorite name from a shortlist of five potential middle names: Macaulay Culkin, Shark Week, TheMcRibIsBack, Publicity Stunt, and Kieran.

Kieran is the name of his actor brother, and Publicity Stunt was suggested by his former Disney-star girlfriend, Brenda Song.

Culkin told Fallon that his own full name is included on the list, "so if somebody comes up to me at the airport and says, 'Excuse me, are you Macaulay Culkin?' I go, 'Well, Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.' "

In the interview, he also joked that he "doesn't need to watch" the ultimate Christmas classics, "Home Alone" and "Home Alone 2," annually as he "was there" making them after all.

"It's something that's there. It's a thing. You get a new girlfriend and you're flicking through the channels and there's Home Alone. She's like 'hmmm, hmmm, you wanna watch it?' And I'm like, 'You wanna watch Home Alone with Macaulay Culkin, don't you.'"

He continued to joke that in scenarios like this, he will "indulge" and mostly mutter his iconic lines under his breath.

Hey all, my boss @IncredibleCulk is legally changing his middle name, and you can tell him what to change it to.

The options include TheMcRibisBack and Shark Week.
