Hordes of chanting fans crammed into London's Leicester Square Wednesday to catch a glimpse of local boy and "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson.

On-off girlfriend Kristen Stewart was a conspicuous no-show as Pattinson did the red carpet affair for new movie "Remember Me."

Pattinson, whose role as Edward Cullen in the hit Vampire franchise has made him a superstar, told the crowd he was still getting used to being so well-known.

"I never go to places where crowds congregate, so it's always a novelty. It's a completely separate aspect of my life. It's nice."

Pattinson plays Tyler in "Remember Me," which tells focuses on Tyler's life in New York in the wake of a family tragedy. Tyler, whose father is played by Pierce Brosnan, falls in love with loner Ally, played by Lost star Emilie de Ravin.

Pattinson said he was delighted to see how "Twilight" had helped "Remember Me" and The Runaways, which stars Twilight actress Kristen Stewart.

"They're both little independent films. The idea that Twilight can help little independent films push through Alice In Wonderland and $100 million budgets is nice."
