Kathy Griffin has been offered Joan Rivers' spot on "Fashion Police"

The 54-year-old comedienne claims was approached to replace the late star - who died from complications while undergoing a minor operation on her vocal cords in September - on the E! series alongside Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and George George Kotsiopoulos, but isn't sure if she wants the job.

She told 'Access Hollywood': "They did offer it to me."

But she added: "I don't know if the situation is correct at this time for me, or right for me at this time."

Although she hasn't officially rejected the offer, Katy hopes that whoever becomes the late icon's successor doesn't try to change the show.

She said: "I really hope they continue in the spirit of Joan's work. She brought a fearlessness and a brand of humor into our homes that we really need. Somebody's gotta be out there poking fun at the ridiculousness of all this!"

Kelly, 29, previously admitted she didn't want anyone to replace Joan when the series returns early next year.

In September, she tweeted: "#enough already!!! yes @e_FashionPolice Will be back in January but NO ONE WILL REPLACE @Joan_Rivers! (sic)"

Following Joan's death, E! ! confirmed the show would continue after receiving the blessing of her daughter Melissa, who produces the series.

A spokesperson said in a statement: "We decided, with Melissa Rivers' blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. 'Fashion Police' will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time."
