In 1994, three years after Freddie Mercury died of AIDS, his boyfriend Jim Hutton appeared on the British television show The Big Breakfast.

The former hairdresser from Carlow appeared in the program just days before the release of his book Mercury and Me, which he said he wrote to ease the pain of his loss.

In the interview,  Hutton, who passed away in 2010 after a long battle with cancer,  spoke about the start of their seven year relationship and Mercury’s AIDS diagnosis.
