The Irish Film and Television Awards were given out last weekend in Dublin, and among the presenters were actor Aidan Quinn, who spends a lot of time in the country working on various projects. Other star names, though, were kind of lacking. An actor from "Ugly Betty" availed of an undoubted free ticket and hotel provided by the organizers, and Saoirse Ronan showed up to collect her award. "More than 900 guests traipsed down the red carpet at the hotel, but many star gazers were left scratching their heads wondering who half the attendees were," sniffed the Evening Herald. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was supposed to attend, but a family crisis put paid to that. The evening's big winner was the film "Hunger," opening here next month, about the last days of Northern Irish hunger striker Bobby Sands.
