Dancers on queue for awards and marks.

The Irish American Home Society (IAHS) in Glastonbury, Connecticut hosts one of the last outdoor Irish dancing competitions in New England. This year, the event was held on Sunday, June 5th on probably the nicest day of the whole year so far.

Four large tented stages moved right along, opening with the Beginner-level dancers. The youngest of these new feisers were awarded a mini-subscription to Feis America, the favorite magazine of Irish dancers in North America.

With a terrific staff of volunteers from the IAHS, registration, stages and awards were well managed. Feis families appreciated the wide array of vendors including Dance Bling, Head for the World and Tillie's Tiaras and the food concessions were fresh and hot. Inside the cozy IAHS building, televisions were tuned to the Red Sox and soccer, and a table of Irish food products tempted all with Cadbury sweets, teas, chips and marmalades for purchase.

Dancers from all over New England and Eastern Canada competed for coveted trophies while enjoying the sun and cool breeze across the IAHS' outdoor field.

If you enjoyed the feis, come back for the Greater Hartford Irish Musical Festival, an annual tradition and the largest of its kind in New England, on July 29-31, 2011!
