Yes, it’s a cliché, the saying that behind every successful man is a great woman, but in the case of Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, it’s completely true.

Ali, who just celebrated 30 years of marriage to her childhood sweetheart turned rock star and global humanitarian, is hard at work promoting a new natural skincare line she co-created called NUDE.  Given that her skin looks flawless at the age of 51, she knows what works and what doesn’t.

“Well, if you are conscious of what you are eating and what you are wearing, you have got to be conscious of what you are putting on your skin every day,” she told Amuse magazine.

“We wanted to make a natural skincare line and, although there were plenty of them around, none were active in anti-ageing or feeding your skin. We wanted to make skincare that was pro-active.”

Her life as Bono’s wife and mother to their four children has been a thrill, she says, but the Dubliners will never forget where they came from, or what’s really important in life.

“Nearly all our friends come from school, the whole band went to

secondary school together. I think maybe, as fame happened and the band became bigger, it was more important to hold onto friends who really liked you and really knew you,” Ali says of the tight-knit U2 clique.

And her kids – two girls in their twenties who live in New York, and two boys still attending school in Dublin – are very much the center of her and Bono’s world.

“Dublin is home, although we did live in New York for a year when both our girls moved here. Even grown-up girls still have things that they need their mother to do,” she said.

“I try to make sure everyone is going to the right place, so it’s busy, but it works. But the most important thing for us has always been the kids.  If they aren’t completely secure, then nothing else is going well.”
