What greater life experience can you provide for your teen than a summer in Ireland?  

The Institute of Study Abroad Ireland, in partnership with Drew University, is proud to announce a new program exclusively for high school sophomores and juniors. While enjoying the incomparable beauty and history of Ireland, students will also earn credits toward college.

This three-week program, running from July 1 – July 22, 2018, includes:

  •         A range of classes on Irish culture and history
  •         Guided field trips to locations including Dublin, Sligo, and Galway
  •         Exploration of castles, caves and the various faces of Ireland’s enchanting countryside
  •         Irish language learning
  •         Participation in traditional cultural activities such as evenings of traditional Irish music, dance and Gaelic sports

As a participant in the Drew University/Institute of Study Abroad summer program, students will have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to see the world, make fast friends from around the globe and learn in an environment unmatched in its beauty and charm.

Explore

The Irish History and Culture course will engage you with global issues such as identity, conflict resolution, political awareness, community service, emigration, poverty and wealth, history and genealogy through the unique lens of Irish history and culture.

Students who successfully complete the program will receive three college credits from Drew University, a private national liberal arts college in New Jersey, which will be accepted as transfer credits at most U.S. colleges and universities.

The Program is located in County Donegal, on the Wild Atlantic Way, this area of Ireland is famous for breath-taking scenery, wonderful history and the friendliest people in Ireland. Students will travel to many other parts of Ireland, including Dublin City and the counties of Sligo, Galway, Fermanagh, Leitrim and Derry.

The Program Director is Dr. Niamh Hamill, Ph.D.  Dr. Hamill has been director of the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland since its foundation in 1996. The Institute of Study Abroad Ireland has delivered educational and cultural programs for many U.S. universities, colleges and schools, including the Irish Government’s Global Irish Summer programs and the annual Transatlantic Connections Conference.

The academic curriculum includes Irish Language, Irish History and Culture, Peace Studies, Social Justice and Civil Rights.  Field trips include guided tours to The Cavan Burren, Yeats Country, Devinish Island, Galway City, Northern Ireland and many more.
