The Irish capital has bars, pubs, and watering holes aplenty. Yet there are plenty of sober activities in Dublin for you to have on your radar.

Here is our pick of the best booze-free days out and experiences.

Viking Splash

If you're familiar with the city, it's probable that you have seen one of the bright yellow Viking Splash 'ducks' by now. It's even more likely that you've been yelled at by a group of tourists on board wearing Viking helmets as they learn about Dublin's rich history. A trip on this amphibious tour bus (it will also go into the canal) is a riotous way to get your culture fix.  As they say, if you can't beat them - join them - Aaaargh!

Afternoon Tea @ The Shelbourne

Everyone knows an Irish person loves a good cup of tea - but we're not talking the average cuppa Barry's here. The Shelbourne, one of Dublin's most iconic hotels, offers an extravagant Afternoon Tea to make you feel your fanciest. (Note: The Lord Mayor's Lounge, where Afternoon Tea is famously served, underwent a major refurbishment this year and will reopen on April 13th 2018.)

Phoenix Park

Can you believe that Dublin houses 1,750 acres of stunning urban grassland? Phoenix Park, which is over 350 years old, is known for its deer but it is also home to the President's official residence, Dublin Zoo, An Garda Síochána Head Quarters, flower gardens, Ashford Castle, a Viking cemetery, and a Neolithic burial mound. Talk about a one stop shop.

GAA Game @ Croke Park

Croker is for Dubs what Fenway Park is to Bostonians. If you want to get a real taste of camaraderie and  team spirit, we suggest you try bag yourself tickets for a fixture when you're in town. Warning: tickets to Dublin games usually sell like hotcakes, so don't leave it until last minute. Croke Park also houses an interactive GAA museum and tours of the massive stadium.

Catch a Play @ The Abbey

The historic Abbey Theatre, which first opened its doors in 1904, is an integral part of Dublin's creative fabric. Founded by W.B Yeats and Lady Gregory, with revolution and Ireland's rich literary culture at its core, witnessing a play at the national theatre is a surefire way to immerse yourself in the arts.

Museums

Dublin is chock full of engaging museums. Our favorites include IMMA (Irish Museum of Modern Art), The Hugh Lane Gallery, National Museum of Ireland, The National Gallery of Ireland, and how could we forget - The Dead Zoo aka The National History Museum.
