A painting created and tap-danced on by Michael Flatley has sold at auction for €22,500 ($27,645).

The Irish Times reports that the abstract painting, titled ‘Rossmore Island’ and inspired by an island in Kenmare Bay, Co Kerry, had been ‘tap-danced’ onto the canvas by Flatley.

The Lord of the Dance star announced last year that he intended to pursue a new career as a visual artist. However, dancing is still very much a part of his creative process. Instead of using a brush, Flatley dances on paint-spattered canvases to create his art.

The painting sold at auction in Sheppard’s Art Auction at Durrow, Co Laois, on Thursday night to an unnamed Irish buyer.

The painting was described by the auction house as a work that “successfully pushes the boundaries of contemporary art.”

Flatley, who did not attend the auction, told the Irish Times that he was “delighted with the result” and hoped the new owner would “enjoy the painting” which he was “crazy about.”

Flatley had sold two painting in charity auctions previously. ‘Rossmore Island’ was his first painting not sold for charity.

He is expected to appear on stage in Dublin for the last time in March 2015 when his show ‘Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games’ plays at the 3Arena.
