The Office of Public Works (OPW) has announced a series of living history tours at the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre, in Oldbridge, Co. Meath this summer.

History buffs, military enthusiasts and those seeking to expand their knowledge of a time past will enjoy the interactive history tours over the coming months.

Why not step back in time with Laoch Living History and find out what it was like to be a 17th century soldier under the forbidding gaze of a Drill Sergeant. Visitors will have an opportunity to come face to face with the musketeer, artillery gunner, pikemen, halberdiers, barber-surgeons, blacksmiths, gunners, sutlers, monks and soldiers from all over 17th Century Europe.

Visitors will be able to join costumed historian, Tóla Collier, for a battlefield walk around the site. This interactive and engaging tour offers visitors the chance to find out about the tactics, strategy, geography, and personalities on the battlefield and the re-live what it was like in the 17th Century at the Oldbridge estate.

Minister of State for responsibility for the OPW, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran, said: "I am delighted to see interactive, educational tours on offer over the coming months at the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre.

"The tours promise to engage visitors and offer them an insight into what life was like for soldiers on the battlefield in the 17th Century. Why not pay a visit, step back in time and soak up the beautiful surroundings of Oldbridge Estate."
