An Irish newspaper has apologized to soccer superstar David Beckham over a story it ran last April that saying the LA Galaxy star hit on Marian Fogarassy while he was on loan at Italian club AC Milan.

The article in the Evening Herald claimed that the former England captain invited the Hungarian model to a party in Milan. Beckham’s representative denied the story and said that he never met the woman.

"There is no truth in this story," said Beckham’s rep. "I was there and there was no interaction with this woman at the stadium. There is
also no party in Milan. She is seeking publicity."

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star made a complaint to the newspaper, which printed an apology on its website.

"On 30 April we stated in an article headed 'Becks made a play for me – model' that David Beckham had made a play for Marian Fogarassy after a recent AC Milan match and that he had invited her to a private party which was due to take place in Milan. We now accept that the story was completely untrue.

"We unreservedly apologize both to David Beckham and to his family for making these allegations and for any distress and embarrassment our article has caused. We have also agreed to pay him damages and legal costs."
