The Hillary for vice president seems to be gaining momentum with several leading pundits weighing in behind former Virginia governor Douglas Wilder who has called for Joe Biden to be replaced.

Howard Fineman on MSNBC said Hillary would take the job in a minute and Chris Matthews eagerly agreed.

If this isn't silly season madness then I don't know what is.

Joe Biden is safe as Obama's running mate in 2012 bar some unforeseen catastrophe.

Equally, Hillary Clinton will step down in a second Obama term. Secretary of State is a gruelling job and it is almost unheard of to stay two terms.

But Hillary would no more trade the State Department for the Vice President slot than she will run again in 2016.

Hillary has made an historic contribution to American politics, a great First Lady an even better senator and even her opponents agree an excellent Secretary of State.

But by 2016 she will be 69 and way too old to run for president.

She knows better than anyone the incredible pressure that a presidential run entails. She knows from personal experience what eight years in the White House can do to you as well.

She has been in public service all her life, either by her husband's side or in her own right. She deserves to kick back and enjoy her later years, hopefully with a grandchild or two, and her husband and daughter Chelsea
