So Susan Boyle has lost out to some

obscure dance troupe who will fade back into obscurity once their moment in the spotlight passes.
Let's face it, they're going to more famous for beating Susan Boyle than winning as themselves.
She's still the real winner here.
I've been resisting the pull of the Susan Boyle story for weeks now.
I can't abide reality shows. I would prefer to stick knitting needles in my eyes than sit through one.
But I have been rivetted by this story since my boss called me in to his office the morning after her first appearance on Britain's Got Talent.
He said he'd almost cried when he watched it. (This from a man who was involved in the peace process in the North - but I digress)
Something about Susan Boyle struck a chord with most people who watched that first clip.
It's cheering - especially these days - to see an ordinary person get a chance to shine.
Susan's always said she entered the show for her late mother Bridget.
Wherever Bridget is now, she must be smiling down on her daughter.
She played a blinder.
