First broadcast in August 1989, “Guests of Another Nation” aimed at painting a positive picture of the Irish who moved to London in the last “brain drain”. As the filmmaker, John Flemming admits “Arguably far more accurately, it paints the Irish migrant in London more as a lost and lonely outsider driven by something other than economics.”

From living in crowded squats, looking for help at the Irish Center, to being a tourist in a cosmopolitan city Flemming describes the movie as a “time capsule in whose favour Ireland has once more unfortunately turned.”

A 16mm independent film “Guests of Another Nation” was aired at the Dublin Film Festival (1988), Stranger Than Fiction documentary festival, Dublin (2009), and the Los Angeles Irish Film Festival (2009).
