It's not like she wasn't warned: you can't thumb your nose at the legal system, time after time, and expect being famous to save you.
Troubled star Lindsay Lohan found that out the hard way on Tuesday. Lohan sobbed as she was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 90 days in rehab.
'I did everything I was told to do, I thought I was being compliant,' Lohan, 24, said, as she tried to explain why she violated probation in a 2007 DUI case by missing weekly alcohol-education classes.
'I did do everything I was told to do. I'm not taking this as a joke, it's my life and career. I don't want you to think I don't respect you and your terms.'
But why is there any confusion about what happened? Lohan clearly violated the terms of her probation in a drunken-driving case when she failed to attend alcohol education classes.
Cheating is still cheating, regardless of whether you get caught or not, Lindsay.
This time Lohan got caught. 90 days is a harsh sentence that sends a message and shields the judge from charges of special treatment.
The shock the rest of the world felt in reading of her sentence comes from the surprise we often feel when celebrities are held to the same standards as ourselves. We simply don't expect that to happen. Tuesday's ruling startled Hollywood and Lohan herself.
According to sources close to her Lohan is now understandably freaking out.
'Lindsay went into court ready to take responsibility for her actions, but she was not expecting to serve jail time at the end of it,' a source claimed. 'She really did take everything seriously, and is just freaking out right now. It's just really, really harsh.'
Harsh or not it's clear by now that Judge Revel wasn't messing around. Yesterday Lohan finally hit rock bottom. It's been a long time coming.
Hopefully this will be the moment she turns her life around.
