Lady Gaga must have some questions to answer on the red carpet. When the paparazzi came over and asked "Who are you wearing?" I can't imagine what she said!

Last night she wore a meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). She had recently come under fire for wearing a meat bikini on the cover of Vogue Hommes in Japan but it seems that she really favor her newest found designer.

The dress was just one of her many outfits on the night but it was definitely the one that raised the most eyebrows.

Gaga wore the dress while accepting the award for Video of the Year, for "Bad Romance". She won eight awards last night. The award was presented by Cher, who though dresses from head to toe in leather, somehow didn't seem that risky next to Gaga wearing a meat dress.

Thankfully there were some explanations found by Ellen DeGeneres who filmed the season opener to her show, "The Ellen Show", at the VMAs last night.

Ellen, who is a vegan, asked her what the dress was about. She said "Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth…However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat."

As always in a light-hearted spirit, Ellen presented her with a veggie bikini and suggested she try that the next time she felt the need to make a statement.
