The “no” vote will surely win the Irish abortion referendum after an amazing development on Thursday.

The Orange Order said no.

Yes, they want the Irish people to vote no.

If there is one group that will drive Nopies into the Yessies camp it is definitely the boys (no girls allowed) of the loyal Orange.

The hypocrisy is staggering. After insisting for decades that the Irish Republic should stay out of Northern Ireland affairs, there they go, sticking their snouts into the Republic’s business.

Here, for the record, is what they said:

“As we approach the referendum on the repeal of the Eighth Amendment on the Constitution of the Republic of Ireland we call upon our members, supporters and friends - eligible to exercise their democratic right - to vote No.

“The government has made it clear, if the Eighth Amendment is repealed, it intends to introduce new legislation, including permitting unrestricted abortion during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

“The Bible is clear: Children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3.”

Children are indeed very special

The Quinn family were very special too, Richard, Mark and Jason 10, 9 and 7, were burned to death in 1998 during the height of the Orange-led protests over a controversial Orange Order march in Drumcree County Armagh.

Their crime was being children of a mixed marriage. At 4.30 am a homemade bomb was thrown through their window by an Orange militant. The three little boys died.

And these Orange men talk about the sanctity of children.

Was thinking it couldn’t get any worse for the No side after the Orange Order but it does pic.twitter.com/UWh5j86pWN
