Liam Adams, brother of Sinn Fein leader Gerry, will appear in a Belfast Court on Thursday, accused of raping his daughter Aine.

The 56-year-old will face 18 separate charges after a failed bid to block his extradition from the Republic.
Adams fled South of the border after his daughter, now Aine Tyrell, alleged in 2009 that she had been abused by her father. Police from the Republic handed Adams over to their Ulster counterparts on Wednesday.

He will appear at Belfast’s magistrates’ court on Thursday accused of 18 separate charges which include rape and gross indecency against his daughter who has waived her right to anonymity.

Originally from West Belfast, Adams was the subject of a European wide arrest warrant issued by Northern Ireland police in 2010.

He handed himself into a Dublin police station last year and immediately launched a legal battle against his extradition to the North.

That bid failed last month when a Dublin court ruled that Adams should be extradited to face the charges in Belfast.
