Irishman Alan Nolan (39) has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for two bank robberies in Morris County, NJ in 2007 and 2010. In total he stole $57,513.

The illegal immigrant, from Dublin, made the news in December last year when the nonchalant manner in which he carried out these robberies came to light. On the day of the robbery in 2010, he had dropped his young child at daycare before carrying out the robbery. That evening he picked his child up as though nothing had happened.

Superior Court Judge David Ironson carried out the sentencing. He said that Nolan must carry out at least 85 percent of his sentence.

Nolan had pled guilty to the robbery of $11,302 from the Bank of New York in Wharton in 2007 and $46,211 from the Chase Bank in Randolph in 2010, according to NJ.com.

Although he was unarmed, he threatened the bank tellers in both instances, once saying that he had a bomb and the next saying he would shoot them unless he got the cash.

He was arrested in 2010 in connection to the Wharton robbery after he was identified from the CCTV in the bank. Investigators were able to track Nolan down having found his YMCA swipe card in the bank along with the keys to his apartment according to a DA spokesperson.

The Dubliner’s attorney, Peter Gilbreth, has said he will be deported once he serves his sentence.

Speaking in court, Nolan said, “It was never my intention to hurt anyone. Truth be told, I would have turned on my heels and fled” if bank tellers refused to turn over money.

He continued ““A father is supposed to set an example…I have failed.”
