A Florida court has ruled that Casey Anthony must start her yearlong probation for check fraud by the end of this week. Anthony, who was acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee, and has now been dubbed “America’s most hated woman”, lost her appeal against the ruling and must now present herself to the local probation office this week.

Anthony’s law team had appealed the probation sentence arguing that it would violate a constitutional right to double jeopardy.  The 25-year-old claims that she already served this sentence during her three year stint in prison while awaiting trial for her daughter’s murder.

The probation order was a sentence given down by Judge Stan Strickland in January 2010 when Anthony pleaded guilty to stealing checks from a friend.

This week the court upheld a ruling made by Judge Belvin Perry during the murder trial. The court ruled that Anthony must report to the Florida probation office, this Friday, no later than 12pm.

The court’s written statement read “The petitioner and her attorneys were well aware that her probationary placement was not to begin until her release from confinement”.

Her legal team described the ruling as an “illegal sentence” because the Florida Department of Corrections is determined that she has already served this sentence.
