Lyndon Lafferty in his new book claims that he knows who the infamous Zodiac Killer is, and he further claims that the killer is living in California. The retired highway patrolman compiled decades of research into his new book ‘The Zodiac Killer Cover-Up,’ in which he asserts that politics are helping to keep the killer’s identity protected.

The Daily Mail reports on the book that was published in February of this year. In the book, Lafferty claims to believe that the Zodiac killer was granted immunity: “Official corruption and political intervention forced the investigation into a top-secret, covert status, giving the insane Zodiac killer immunity and a license to kill.”

The Zodiac killer is known for terrorizing Northern California during the 1960s. He’s blamed for the murders of at least five people who were between the ages of 16 and 29. However, in cryptic letters the Zodiac killer had sent to newspapers, the killer claims responsibility for 37 murders.

The cryptic nature of the coded messages the killer sent have puzzled investigators for decades. Lafferty however, a code-breaker during the Korean War, claims to have cracked some of the code, and even believes that the name of the suspect is in one of the killer’s cryptic messages.

The Zodiac killer case was closed in 2004, only to be reopened in 2007. Still, authorities have yet to confirm who the murderer is.

The original main suspect of the murders, Arthur Leigh Allen, was found innocent of the crimes after a DNA comparison between his saliva and that on one of the killer’s sealed envelopes didn’t match. The author of ‘The Zodiac Killer Cover-Up’ attended high school with Allen.

Though there’s still no confirmed murderer from authorities, Lafferty is certain he knows who it is, and even what the killer’s motive was. “Mind and body ravaged by years of severe alcoholism, his blood-lusting revenge turned him into the most shocking and vicious killer in our 20th century,” wrote Lafferty in his book, who is confident that adultery played a large role in his choice of victims.

He believes that the killer began his string of heinous crimes after his wife cheated on him with a Solano County, California judge.
