A year after the Ashley Madison Agency launched in Ireland the company’s growth there is on the up and up.

The company, whose slogan is “Life’s Short, Have an Affair”, aims to match people up who both want to have affairs and live in the same locality.

Established in 2001 the Canadian owned website now has over 5.9 million members in Canada, the United States, Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. So far it is reporting a 79 percent growth year over year.

Noel Biderman, founder of the site, spoke to Irish Central when the company started up in Ireland  .

He said “Ireland has lower divorce rates compared to the U.S., meaning people stay in their marriages more often than they do in the US, which benefits our business.”

Biderman also thinks that the success of his site in Ireland has something to do with the nation’s Catholic guilt.

“The more you suppress human nature, the more likely it is to manifest itself. My business may not be all that successful in France – they don’t need me. It’s more socially accepted there that men have mistresses. It’s part of their culture. But in Ireland it’s not accepted,” he said.

He also said “Infidelity rates tend to go up in tough economic times.”

Not surprisingly the spike which Biderman sees international are just after the holidays; New Year's, Valentine's Day and Father's Day — or any holiday that carries heightened expectations.

He also said that his busiest time of the week is Monday morning.

"So many people come into the weekend thinking, 'OK, I'm going to have some alone time with my partner, this is going to happen,' and then instead, it's an argument over the kids or bills and that's the last straw," he says. "So Monday morning, my site is through the roof".
