Sean Penn could face up to 18 months in jail following his attack on a paparazzo photographer last October.

In a recent development, City prosecutors in Los Angeles brought criminal charges against Penn on Friday, according to AFP.

Misdemeanor battery and vandalism are the charges against Penn, following the incident in Brentwood, LA, last year, AFP reported. Penn is shown pursuing a photographer and seems to be kicking him the leg, in a video of the encounter posted on TMZ.

“Get out, get out, get out, get the f *** out,” Penn is heard to say in the video, before kicking at the other man and then stalking away.

The date for Penn’s arraignment is March 22.

The Irish American actor has a history of violent confrontations with members of the press. In 1987 he attacked a photographer on a film set and spent a month behind bars.
