Irish actress, Saoirse Ronan has been set to star as the leading lady in 'The Host', the screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by 'The Twilight Saga' author Stephenie Meyer.

Ronan, the Oscar-nominated star of 'Atonement', 'The Lovely Bones' and most recently 'Hanna', will play Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls. These parasites invade human bodies, fuse to each person's consciousness and systematically erase their personalities.

Saoirse Ronan will play two characters in one when Melanie's human form is invaded by a Soul called Wanda, the alien whose perspective the story is told from.

The strong-willed teenager refuses to surrender her consciousness and the two form a bond in the process. The alien finds Melanie to be unique in her unwillingness to surrender her consciousness and is overwhelmed by her memories and feelings, which drives the alien to reconnect with Melanie's old life.

Stephenie Meyer's adult sci-fi novel which is a big step from ‘The Twilight Saga’, also involves a strong female lead and a melt your heart love triangle. With Ronan as the leading lady we’re sure of an over-whelming performance that will punch out a great take on a popular movie genre.

Ronan has definitely proved she's got the acting range to play two different personalities at the same time, and we're looking forward to seeing some romance tossed into her roles.
