Irish actor Chris O'Dowd made his way onto Conan O'Brien's talk show recently and was dubbed by the Irish American host as "Hollywood's next leading man." The Roscommon-born charmer deadpanned in response "Thank you, one person." Undoubtedly, O'Dowd's status has been rapidly rising with the recent release of Bridesmaids. The film, directed by Judd Apatow, overtook Thor at the box office this week, and O’Dowd’s performance has been hailed by critics and audiences alike.

In the film, O'Dowd plays a cop who is also the love interest of lead actress Kristen Wiig. Although Wiig's character might fall for O'Dowd in the film, the actor claims that he is not accustomed to the female attention directed at him. O'Dowd added "women finding me attractive is a new sensation ... this is fresh." The night's other guest Bradley Cooper was seated next to O'Dowd and seemed unamused when O'Dowd joked he felt emasculated by Cooper's presence.

O'Dowd continued to bring the laughs when asked about his family life back in Roscommon, joking that he was one of sixteen children. Responding to the audience's murmurs and gasps, O'Brien added "that really upset people!"

O'Dowd continued to reveal the torture he suffered at the hands of two older sisters, who often put make-up on him in his sleep so that he would be made fun of at school.

Before turning heads in 'Bridesmaids,' O'Dowd was featured in 'The IT Crowd'and 'Dinner For Schmucks.' Although he had focused on drama while at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, he decided that comedy was the route for him. Judging by his performance in 'Bridesmaids' and his appearance on Conan, his comedic career is going to be a fulfilling one for the young Irishman.
