Michael Fassbender has been hard at work in London and Arizona on his next big role, in The Counselor alongside Brad Pitt and Cameron Diaz, and he’s likely got more worked lined up after that as well as he’s down to star with Oscar winner Natalie Portman in Jane Got a Gun.

Fassbender plays the title role in The Counselor, directed by Ridley Scott (brother of the recently departed Tony). He’s a corrupt lawyer who gets involved in drugs, and Pitt plays a character who helps provide $20 million worth of cocaine.

The screenplay is by Cormac McCarthy, and Pitt said he was delighted to have the chance to reunite with Scott and Fassbender, who he co-starred with in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds.

“I’ve read every word (McCarthy) has published and most of them more than once. So this was a chance to do something of his and also to work with Ridley (Scott) again. Ridley gave me my first break into the big leagues. And I’m a (Michael) Fassbender fanatic too,” Pitt said.

Fassbender, raised in Co. Kerry, is quite the in-demand actor these past couple of years. Reports on Tuesday said he’s negotiating to co-star alongside Portman in Jane Got a Gun, a western in which Fassbender would play the ex-lover of Portman’s character.

Not only that, it’s looking like a sequel is planned for Prometheus in 2014 or 2015, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fassbender starred alongside Charlize Theron in the sci-fi film that was released at the start of the summer, and though it wasn’t a monster hit ($125 million U.S. gross and $302 worldwide with a budget of at least $150 million), Fassbender is committed to doing the sequel, as his character was one of only two to survive the first outing.
