In Kristen Stewart’s latest movie, “Welcome to the Rileys”, she plays a 20-year-old stripper called Mallory, alongside “The Sopranos” James Gandolfini and “Treme’s” Melissa Leo.
Stewart’s character gets caught up in Gandolfini and Leo’s failing marriage as she struggles with her own difficulties. The actress said that she found the role very difficult as she has never had any similar experiences, which she could base her performance on.
“It was an incredibly impactful experience. But at the same time, it's not like I was incredibly altered by the end of it,” said Stewart, while speaking to MTV news. "It's hard to relate to this story, because I couldn't have had a more different upbringing. I can't relate to the kind of loss and weird incomplete feeling or whatever."
Although the content of the movie is gritty and in some parts very said Stewart believes that her character in the movie can teach its viewers about the importance of self respect.
"One thing that is generally relateable and I found is perfect for young girls - 'Twilight' fans, actually - is the whole idea that, unless you respect and like yourself, nobody else is going to. It's always been really easy for me to do that."
The movie will be on limited release in the United States from October 29 and on general release from the beginning of November.
