Irish rock gods U2 recorded a special tribute performance to mark Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday yesterday.

The Dublin based band performed a live version of Happy Birthday at a show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last week and recorded it for the legendary political activist.

The video was unveiled by the former South African president himself at a Mandela Day celebration at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York last night.

The event was hosted by the veteran Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman, who recently played Mandela in the hit film Invictus.
