Irish actor Cillian Murphy will star alongside Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman in Wally Pfister's “Transcendence,” a film about a scientist whose brain is uploaded to a supercomputer in order to create a thinking machine.  Depp will play the scientist and it is reported by the Irish Independent that Murphy will be one of the other two male leads.

Murphy is no stranger to the cinematic genius, Wally Pfister, who will take his first shot at directing for the film.   Pfister is an Academy Award winning cinematographer who set new standards with his work with Christopher Nolan in films like the Dark Knight Trilogy and ‘Inception’.  Murphy had a role in ‘Batman Begins,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ and ‘Inception,’  giving Pfister a familiar face to shoot.

Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany and Kate Mara will also star in ‘Transcendence’ and Christopher Nolan will produce.

Murphy can be seen next in ‘Peaky Blinders’ with Helen McCrory and Sam Neill.
