Now that she is out of the running for senator from New York, there has been some media speculation, including in The Irish Times, that Caroline Kennedy may be back in the frame for the Irish ambassador job. That seems unlikely, however. Kennedy could probably have any ambassadorial appointment she wants and she could well favor ambassador to Britain, according to recent newspaper reports. Kennedy's grandfather, old Joe Kennedy, was ambassador to Britain during the tumultuous time before World War II when he expressed clear isolationist tendencies and predicted that the Germans would win the war. Caroline is likely to be licking her wounds for some time after the New York Senate debacle, and an ambassadorial post may well not be in her future. That will not stop the speculation however.
